Jack Dokus Demonstration

Saturday, March 20, 11:00pm – 3:30pm
The Concord League retail Gallery welcomes metalsmith Jack Dokus. He will demonstrate wax model working for the lost wax process.

Beginning with a strong fine arts education at the age of fourteen, Mr. Dokus fulfilled his early promise upon graduation from Arts High School, by winning a scholarship to the Newark School of Fine Industrial Art.

He continued his undergraduate study at Kean College of New Jersey, where he first worked with the noble metals. His gravitation to them was swift and complete. Taking metals as the area of concentration for his graduate work, he soon developed the major medium for his creative expression.

A member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, his work is sold throughout New Hampshire in the league shops. A professional educator as well as producing artist, he is one of the league’s certified instructors. His demonstrations and classes have brought a better understanding of metal working to many students. His teaching experience ranges from private instruction to college courses. Whether instructing or creating, he is sincere, dedicated, and intense. The results have been dramatic.

Mr. Dokus has exhibited in some of the major museums and galleries of his native New Jersey. His museum quality work has been selected for exhibition throughout New England. These include: the Currier Gallery of Art, the Concord, Massachusetts Art Association, the Sharon Art Center, the Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences, the Wesleyan Potters, the University of N.H. at Durham, the Cordova Museum, and many others.

He was successfully juried in the premier issue of the New England Handcraft Catalog, a documentation of New England’s finest craftspeople. Mr. Dokus has been the subject of radio interviews and P.B.S. Television programs.

Mr. Dokus has won awards, from “Honorable Mention” through “Best of Metals” to “Excellence in Crafts”, at a variety of exhibitions.

Jack Dokus Statement:

I have been an artist in metals since the early seventies. Exhibitions include the Currier and Cordova Museums, N.H. Art Institute and other New England Galleries. My design sense is organic and detailed, be it to produce a line of work but distinguished from passing trends. Creating heirlooms for forty years has been an enriching experience allowing me to share something special from others.

Weddings, anniversaries or anything which moves the heart to express itself will bring out my best. To consider an uncommon selection of work or to have a personal expression brought to life, that is who I am.
