Pin/Pendant Workshop

Pins, Pendants, Oh My! - Here’s a chance to make your own pendants that can even be pins.Using brass, copper and some silver, we will hammer, shape, form, stamp, rivet, solder, tweak and much more to make pendants, that can also do double duty as pins. Bring in any beads or stuff you want to use to incorporate into pendants or pins. Instructor will provide copper, brass and some silver for students to purchase.
Tuition: $45
Materials: $20 - $50 depending on student choices.
Make A Pair Of Earrings In A Day

Ever wanted to make your own earrings? Using wire and sheet metal, we can shape, hammer, bend, tweak, curl, solder and much more to make earrings. Tips on making the perfect french earwire or hoop earrings will be given, how to incorporate beads and other goodies into earrings will be covered. Students can bring in beads, stones, charms and whatever they want to use to make into earrings. Instructor will provide copper, brass, silver and earbacks for students to purchase.
Tuition: $45
Materials fee: $20 - $50 depending on students choice of materials.
Cut And Pierced Lampshade

In this class students will learn to put patterns on paper arcs and how to cut soft curves and sharp points using a ex-acto knife and piercing tool. We will be cutting a small wild iris in your choice of background color. After the piercing and cutting is finished you will learn to sculpt the cuts so when light comes through it looks shaded. We will then apply a lining, attach shade to wires and apply the ribbon. Each student should go home with a finished shade and a thorough understanding of the craft to be able to make more.
Tuition: $25
Materials: $21 for a 5 x 10 x 7 round shade $26 for a 5 x 10 x 7 hex shade
Make A Ring In A Day

In this one day workshop, we will make our own rings. Using wire, we will wrap, bend, shape, twist, coil, solder and much more to make rings for ourselves or for someone special. We will also use sheet metal such as silver or copper to make band rings that we can stamp sayings, names or dates, hammer-texture or create patterns. If time permits, we can do simple stone settings to set stones. Students can bring in some stones they can try setting. Instructor will provide copper, brass, silver and some gemstones such as black onyx.
Tuition: $45
Materials fee: $20 - $50 depending on students choice of materials.
Fabric Shade Workshop
July 19th, 2008, 10:00-5:00

In this class the student will learn to apply fabric to pressure sensitive styrene. Then we will put the fabric on wires and apply complimentary ribbon. We will also discuss making self- trim from fabric for an exact match and some students may wish to try this on their shade. Students are asked to bring 1 yard of cotton fabric- non directional patterns work best.
Tuition: $30
Materials: $21 for a 5 x 10 x 7 round shade $26 for a 5 x 10 x 7 hex shade
Materials needed- 1 yard fabric of your choosing.
Watercolor Quilting
July 27th, 2008, 11:00-4:00

In this watercolor quilting class, students will create a small wall hanging (about 16" X 16") using a variety of spring floral 100% cotton fabrics. The fabrics are randomly cut into squares and then carefully arranged to make either a wreath, a heart, or a basket of flowers. Using a quilter's grid backing, you are guaranteed success whether your quilting experience is novice or advanced. If you like jigsaw puzzles, you'll love this technique.
Tuition: $35
Materials fee: $5.00 for quilters grid

Fabulous Felted Beads
Sunday, Sept. 14th, 2008, 9:00-3:00

Explore the wonders of wool and color! Participants will learn the basics of wet felting and will complete several beads. This class is for all levels (beginner- advanced) and everyone will take home a completed necklace.Bring beads to enhance your creation.

Free-Lace Threadplay Scarves
Saturday, Oct. 4th, 2008, 10:00-3:00

Make a lacy Fiber scarf with yarns, threads, ribbons, strips and bits of fabric.Sew your fibers together with simple "thread-play" between 2 layers of water soluble stabilizer, rinse, embellish with beads,and a fabulous art to wear scarf remains!
Tuition: $35
Materials fee: $12 for water soluble stabilizer scarf kit.
Student provided materials -
A sewing machine in good working order, a collection of fibers: ribbons, yarns, bits of silk or other light weight fabric to tear into strips if desired(pattern on both sides a plus) ,threads,sewing machine thread (polyester is good for strength) to compliment your fibers and 2 bobbins wound to match, beads,needle to sew on beads, scissors. Extra kits will be available for purchase.

Course Registration
A registration is not confirmed until a check for the tuition is
received. Should a class need to be cancelled by the League, those
who registered will be notified and the tuition will be returned. If
a participant is unable to attend the class, notification must be
given to the League at least one week in advance in order to have
the tuition refunded. A waiting list for the classes will be
developed and, as openings arise, replacements from the list will be
notified to fill cancellations. For further information call the Meredith shop at (603) 279-7920.
