Hans Schepker
Media: Glass

I was born in Germany in 1948. After an electronics apprenticeship, I did an apprenticeship with a master tailor. I learned design and various aspects of fiber arts, including constructing spinning wheels and weaving looms. In 1985, I moved to the US with my wife, Marcy and started working as a tailor. One of my better known customers was Governor Judd Gregg. As demand for good tailored suits declined, my interest in kites grew. I won Best in Category at the Smithsonian Kite Festival in Washington, DC in 1994. My lifelong fascination with geometry has expanded to include designing geometric, stained glass lighting and sculpture, teaching concepts of mathematics through glass and paper.
