Lydia Grey
Media: Clay

I first met real clay in high school. I kept leaving and returning to clay, teaching myself new ways of working with it, through college, many jobs and motherhood. I stayed when I realized I could tell stories with it. I began with classic myths and folktales that moved me. Stories reflecting my life experiences and hopes for the future emerged. I found out that others were moved by my work, sometimes to tears, to laughter, to a recognition of themselves in the story. The deep connection to nature from my childhood reappeared in the form of animals coming to sit with the people on my pieces, pointing the way to the need to include all of life in the decisions we make about the future.
