Susan Samitz
Media: Polymer Clay Photography

The patterns and images in my work are created by layering different colored polymer clay into "canes" (three-dimensional designs) from which I slice cross-sections. I then harden these slices in an oven. Once hardened I combine them with niobium wire, nylon-coated steel threads or silk cord to make my work as fanciful and kinetic as I can. I was a painting major in college but was always drawn to making jewelry. This work satisfies both my love for color and for the intricate adornment.
