Joan was born and raised on a truck farm/ski lodge in Franconia, NH .
Both parents were ski racers and her mother was a sculptor. She began pottery in high school, then a year at both Bennington and Mills colleges. She then studied at Kansas City Art Institute 1979-1981 with Ken Ferguson and Vitor Babu.
Joan began her other interest of skiing at age three which lead to racing with Olympic and FIS teams from 1959-1966.
Ski Racing lead to ski teaching. She was a member of the American Interski team and joined the Vail, Co. ski school in 1968 for 26 years. The off season was Pottery time!
In 1992 she returned to NH. to ski teach, pot and farm.
